Paying a special attention to postgraduate programs is the university’s development strategy with the aim of cultivation of experts and scientists who are expected to contribute to science and technology advances of the country. The advanced training curriculum supported by updated teaching methodologies aims at enhancing the training quality oriented by research based training. The university is on the way towards diversification of postgraduate curricula and models.
Number Students & Training Models
Master degree programs
In 1990 the university started the master degree programs specialized in 17 majors. The number of master students was 2,268 in the academic year 2008 – 2009 with respective 41 majors of the domestic training programs. Currently, research based 37 majors are being implemented.
The candidates are required to pass the National Entrance Examination which is held annually by the Postgraduate study office. At the same time, they must be qualified with the English proficiency of TOEFL ITP 400 or IELTS 4.0. The 1000 candidates are selected according to the number of target students of the respective majors.
The training duration lasts 1.5 to 2 years with the required accumulative credits of 36 – 50. In order to be conferred upon the Master degree, the students are requested to obtain the required accumulative credits by the course-works and research, to conduct and successfully defend master thesis judged by the thesis evaluation committee, and to acquire fluency in English of TOEIC 550.
After graduation, the graduates obtain solid knowledge and have capability to put into practice theories and to catch up with the continuous development of science and technology to deal with related research problems.
Doctoral degree programs
The university was entrusted to conduct doctoral degree programs in 1981. For the time being, there are 41 doctoral majors. In order to be accepted to the programs, the candidates must pass the national entrance examination.
The doctoral programs are based on research scheme. In order to complete the program, the doctoral students must conduct the minimal three-year research and successfully defend the doctoral dissertations judged by the evaluation committee. The program ensures students to broaden solid knowledge so that they have capability to work independently and creatively.
After graduation, doctors with theoretical and practical knowledge have capability to deal with relevant research problems.
