History & Mission

Since its founding in 1978, the Faculty of Geology and Petroleum Engineering has developed into a unit with comprehensive research and training programs in Geosciences. It has been one of the most prestigious educational units in training human resources for the fields of geology and petroleum engineering in Vietnam. The objectives of the faculty are to provide learners with up-to-date knowledge and skills in different fields of geological and petroleum engineering. With the aim of equipping graduates with a rigorous theory background and a practical experience in their fields of study, the faculty is not only continuously improving educational resources and facilities, but also facilitating student’s career orientation during the academic programs through internships, fieldtrips at their future workplaces.

Staff    & Facilities

The Faculty has 33 teaching and research staff. In addition to the facilities supporting to teaching and training, the Faculty also built up a laboratory systems with modern equipments for scientific research, graduate training as well as technology transfer. These include Microscopic Laboratory, Geo-Environmental Laboratory, Geotechnical Laboratory and Equipment and Simulation Laboratory on Geology and Petroleum Engineering (GEOPET Simulation Lab).


Research Focus Areas

  • Technological solutions to increase the efficiency in exploration and production of water, mineral and petroleum.
  • Environmental problems in the exploitation and treatment of mineral resources including activities of oil & gas production.
  • Investigating geotechnical properties; studying structural change rules of soft soils in South Vietnam area and geodynamic catastrophes.
  • Studying material components, physico-mechanical properties of petroleum source rocks, fluid properties and petroleum reservoir structures.
  • Modeling and simulating petroleum exploration and production, applying GIS in EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) and management
  • Establishing database for the exploration and production of water, solid mineral and petroleum.
