Gender Roles in Education, Leadership and Culture reaches over 200

The second annual Women in STEM Conference: Gender Roles in Education, Leadership and Culture, November 13, 2017 at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology attracted more than 200 participants, representing the HCMC Government, US Mission, VAFIW, academic administrators, STEM educators, scientists, researchers, students, and industry. The Conference was co-organized by BUILD-IT/ASU, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, and Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women (VAFIW).  By highlighting the achievements of Women in STEM, the conference raised the awareness of evolving role of women in Vietnamese society, especially in the STEM fields, encouraging young women to be involved in all aspects of STEM and lead in their chosen area of expertise, and educating men to enable and empower them. The conference provided excellent networking opportunities for women in STEM in Vietnam and beyond. The WiSTEM Conference also kicked off the Women Engineering Projects in Community Services (WEPICS) 2018 competition.

STEM careers offer women opportunities to engage in some of the most exciting realms of discovery and technological innovation that are also the high-tech, high-wage jobs of the future. As a result, increasing opportunities for women in these fields is an important step towards realizing greater economic successes and equality for women across the board.
