A Collaboration Agreement between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) and the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients in Ho Chi Minh City concluded

The collaboration agreement signing ceremony between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients in Ho Chi Minh City took place in the morning of 01 April 2019 at the meeting hall A4 in HCMUT.

Attended the ceremony were the ex-member of the Politburo as well as ex-president of Vietnam Mr. Truong Tan Sang; Chairman of the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients in Ho Chi Minh City Mr. Tran Thanh Long; member of the Politburo as well as president of Viet Nam National University – Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Thanh Dat; member of the Politburo as well as Standing Deputy Secretary of Ben Tre province Mr. Phan Van Mai; HCMUT Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong; Vice Rectors Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thien Phuc and Le Minh Phuong together other representatives from enterprises and functional offices and centers as well as lecturers and students of HCMUT.

The project namely “fresh water for schools” as a community contribution activity is to provide communities with fresh drinking water (according to the national standards) with the aim of giving a care take for students’ and teachers’ health in poor areas, where local people find hard to access to the fresh water for drinking and other household use.

Initiated by the ex-member of the Politburo as well as ex-president of Vietnam Mr. Truong Tan Sang, the project has been implemented by the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients in Ho Chi Minh City given the funds provided by international and domestic enterprises as well as sponsors.

According to the agreement concluded, HCMUT joins the project as a consultant on technology and engineering. In particular, HCMUT helps:

- do surveying and reports on water resources at local schools which have participated in the project,

- propose proper water filtering procedures and solutions to produce fresh drinking water in line with the national standards,

- cooperate with the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients in Ho Chi Minh City, local governments and other project implementers as a technical monitor,

- propose procedures related to technology transfer, management and operation of water filtering systems to local areas.

Initiated since 2018, the project “fresh water for schools” has raised a fund of 16 billion VND in total. Also, a number of water filtering systems have been installed to provide fresh water to 100.000 students and teachers at over 200 schools in 03 local areas in Tan Tru in Long An province, Thanh Phu in Ben Tre province and Nui Thanh in Quang Nam province. In 2019, the project is planned to conduct in the other two districts Ba Tri and Binh Dai in Ben Tre province.
