The Welcoming Ceremony of SSEAYP 2016 in Ho Chi Minh City

12 November 2016: Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) held a welcoming ceremony to receive the visit of the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme – SSEAYP 2016.

The Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme and Japanese - SSEAYP is an annual youth exchange program jointly organized by Japan and 10 ASEAN countries with the aim of promoting understanding, solidarity and friendship between Japan and Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam. This is one of the most important public diplomatic activities of the youth in Southeast Asia and Japan since 1974 and Vietnam has participated in the program since 1995.

SSEAYP 2016 is organized for its 43rd time, with 40-day voyage, from 25/10 to 15/12/2016 in following countries: Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia. SSEAYP in 2016 with 329 participants from 10 ASEAN countries and Japan on board of Nippon Maru ship will be involved in many significant activities in Ho Chi Minh City.

From 11th to 14 November 2016, in addition to cultural and music exchange between SSEAYP 2016 participants and the city youths, SSEAYP delegates will meet with city leaders, participate in Group Discussions with young people of the city under the themes: young entrepreneurs, promoting cultural exchange, environmental - natural disaster prevention, food and nutrition education, health education, HIV / AIDS prevention, ASEAN – Japan cooperation, education in schools, information and communication ...

SSEAYP 2016 delegates are exchanging with their homestay hosts

 ‘Homestay Program” is a core activity is to give participants from different countries the feeling life experience, cultural beauty in the daily life of Vietnamese in general and of the city residents in particular. This year, there are 158 families in 14 districts of Ho Chi Minh City hosting the delegates. Of these, only 60% of families have participated in the program in previous years, the rest are participating in SSEAYP activity for their first time. Vietnam is the first destination of the program SSEAYP 2016. After leaving Ho Chi Minh City, the SSEAYP 2016 participants will continue to visit Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia and then return to Japan.

The goal of SSEAYP 2016 is to strengthen the friendship and mutual understanding between the youth of Japan and ASEAN youth.  For young people, this is a valuable opportunity to learn, to experience different cultures in the region; expand their views of the world, enhance their knowledge and skills in various fields and introduce to international friends of a young Vietnamese generation who are always young, dynamic and enthusiastic in social activities.
