On March 26th, 2012, HEEAP Cohort 2010, 2011, 2012 work with assessment coordinators from Arizona State University (ASU) in a site visit. The visit aims at assessing and exploring the effectiveness of implementing innovative teaching method: achievements, challenges and recommendations at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) in 2 academic years of 2010 - 2011 and 2011 -2012.

During the assessment, ASU delegates attend a HEEAP class lectured by Prof. Nguyen Huu Phuc - Dean of Faculty of Electrical Electronic Engineering and Group Leader of HEEAP Cohort 2011. Shelly Potts, assessment coordinator, is satisfied with the class because the students are active, class attendance is large and truancy rarely happens and the professor uses a great number of practical demonstrations. Though English has not been applied entirely in the class but partially introduced to students through technical terms, definitions, lecture notes and students’ presentations.

The assessment delegates also invite students to an open interview in order to get students’ feedbacks on the new teaching method. All students agree that they have more opportunities to talk to professors and collaborate with other students. HEEAP students’ excellent academic results and their endeavor to study surprise the assessment specialists.

In the afternoon, ASU delegates spend time working with HEEAP Cohort 2010 and 2011 to deeply examine the teaching materials, student evaluation forms, students’ satisfaction and process to undertake student projects.

With all those accomplishments, Ms. Potts expresses that she believes that HEEAP project will continue to achieve more successes when HEEAP Cohort 2012 comes back from the training at ASU this summer.
