The annual PFIEV meeting 2018 between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and French University Consortium took place in the morning of 12 November 2018 at the Meeting Hall A4 in Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology campus.

Attended the meeting were Mr. Thibaut SKRZYPEK – a representative of Paris Institute of Technology as well as a spokesman of French University Consortium and other representatives of French Universities including National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse, Grenoble Institute of Technology, CentraleSupélec (a French institute of research and higher education in engineering and science), National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon, IMT Atlantique Bretagne Pays de la Loire, Polytech Marseille and Louis le Grand

On the HCMUT side, there were Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thien Phuc, Director of Vietnam – French Training Program for Excellent Engineers ( PFEIV)  in Vietnam  together with deans and vice deans of faculties, head and deputy heads of related offices.

As usual, in every November of each year, the annual PFIEV meeting took place to summarize and share activities implemented and achievements gained over a year, at the same time, to discuss directions and objectives in mutual cooperation in the years to come among 9 French universities and 4 Vietnamese universities (including Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Da Nang University of Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Hanoi University of Construction).

Addressing at the meeting, Assoc. Prof .Dr. Tran Thien Phuc Vice Rector as well as Director of the PFIEV program in HCMUT affirmed that the PFIEV is one of the effective international cooperation programs bringing about huge benefits to the university. Joining the consortium, teaching staff of the university has accumulated valuable experience in teaching and research. Equally, the most significant achievement over 19 years of cooperation (1999 – 2018) is that the consortium has built and developed a network of 9 French and 4 Vietnamese universities. Most importantly, in 2017, 04 Vietnamese universities were recognized by HCERES at institutional level for 5 years (2017 – 2022). The fact that the PFIEV training programs recognized by Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (CTI) for 3 consecutive times (2004 – 2010, 2010 – 2016 and 2016 – 2022) has importantly contributed to  quality assurance and accreditation processes of the university.

It is reported that since 1999, there have been 19 intakes and 15 graduation batches. After graduation, graduates have worked at enterprises or universities or continued their postgraduate training. Furthermore, 27% of graduates from PFIEV has been working or studying overseas.

On part of French universities, Mr. Thibaut SKRZYPEK – a representative of Paris Institute of Technology as well as a spokesman of French University Consortium appreciated valuable support and close cooperation among French and Vietnamese Universities, which has radically contributed to the PFIEV program success over years. Also, Mr. Thibaut SKRZYPEK totally agreed with HCMUT to nonstop develop and perfect PFIEV programs in years to come.

As part of the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thien Phuc presented the report on PFIEV activities implemented in 2017 and operation directions for the academic year 2018 – 2018 on admission and advertisement of PFIEV programs, curriculum development and improvement, training and research quality assurance, foreign languages, alumni, industry linkage, degrees conferred upon, CTI accreditation, the coming 20th anniversary of PFIEV (1999 – 2019) and so on.

Representatives of universities in the Consortium sharing initiatives to further improve the training quality and attractiveness of the PFIEV programs in years to come.

The meeting ended after the discussion session where representatives of universities in the Consortium shared initiatives to further improve the training quality and attractiveness of PFIEV programs in years to come.
