Inaurguration of UTS – HCMUT Joint Technology and Innovation Research Centre

 
In the afternoon of 16th May, the Opening Ceremony of the UTS – HCMUT Joint Technology and Innovation Research Centre, was held at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT). This is a collaborative research between HCMUT and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The Centre is expected to be put into operation in early June, 2018 at Di An - Binh Duong campus of HCMUT.
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Craig Chittick - Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms. Karen Lanyon - Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, Prof. Lam Quang Vinh – Director of Science and Technology Department, Vietnam National University - HCMC, Prof. Mai Thanh Phong – Rector of HCMUT and other members from UTS of Australia.

HCMUT has officially established the partnership with UTS since 2012. The University of Technology Sydney is known as a prestigious university in Australia, with extensive links to industry and possessing professional research capacity and accredited training quality. The two sides have signed a joint undergraduate training program in Mechatronics in 2014, which has became a double training program for at doctoral level by 2016; and in 2018, the UTS – HCMUT Joint Technology and Innovation Research Centre is established.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Mai Thanh Phong, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, emphasized: "Joint Technology and Innovation Research Centre aims to promote the research activities between the two universities and provide industrial partners with training courses and solutions related to technologies such as cybersecurity, intelligent city, universal internet ... The center is also used for the purpose of co-supervising PhD students in the double PhD program of the two universities, contributing to tighten the cooperation between Australia and Vietnam. The research areas that the center aims to serve includes the construction of a smart city in Ho Chi Minh City in the future.

Over the past 60 years of formation, development and integration (1957 - 2018), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology has confirmed its position as one of the leading technological universities in the field of training and scientific research in Southern Vietnam, as well as a core member university of VNU - HCM. The University aims to become a well-known research-oriented university in Vietnam and in the region. The University has more than 100 partners around the world and participates in many international academic networks.
